How Did Brazilian Slaves Fight Back?

Brazilian Capoera

Capoera is a Brazilian art technique which joins fight, dance, rhythm, and movement. Capoera is a dialog among members which is communication through movement which can take on many variations of meaning. The features of capoera's beginnings and early history are still a matter of dispute among historians, but it is clear that African and Brazilian slaves performed a significant position in the evolution of the art-form. Some historians claim that slaves used capoera's dance-like form as a method to hide their practice of combat and self-defense. Enslaved brazilian's would practice this art daily. they had all the time to perfect this method so that when they fought back, they can sucseed and gain their freedom.

How Was Slavery Like In Brazil?

Slavery in Brazil was like any other country. Harsh environments, treatment, and separation from families etc. By the time slavery was ended completely in 1888 there had already been an estimate of 40 million slaves that have been captured, imported to Africa and sold into slavery. This was already 40% of all the slaves that had been brought to Africa. Which took a long time to do due to the facts that they were the last country to abolish slavery out of every other country. This information shows that Brazil was probably the country that was most for ti because they were the last civilizations to abolish it

Can African Culture Still Be Found Today?

African culture is very cherished and sacred. Putting so many tribes, and villages together to celebrate their uniqueness all throughout Africa. It is a product of such diverse populations that have inhabited the African diaspora culture. Music, Poetry, and singing is very important to the African society because the melody and rhythm follow the intonation of the song text. Music is often used in different African cultures to ward off evil spirits and to pay respects to good spirits, the dead and ancestors. You can naturally still see this today when you have African american cultures.
